Choosing the right strength adhesive? It starts with color.
LOCTITE® coatings follow a well-known color system that translates to pre-applied equivalents. Each color represents a different strength and use case.
RED LOCTITE® = High Strength
For permanent assemblies where disassembly is not expected.
- Field-Applied: LOCTITE® 262, 271
- Pre-Applied: DRI 201 ECO™, DRI 204™
When should you use red LOCTITE®? If your fastener must never loosen – think critical engine bolts – this is the coating to trust.
BLUE LOCTITE® = Medium Strength
Allows disassembly with hand tools.
- Field-Applied: LOCTITE® 242, 243
- Pre-Applied: DRI STS, DRI 202 ECO™, DRI 2250™
Want reliability with future serviceability? Blue threadlockers are ideal for assemblies that require maintenance but must withstand high stress.
PURPLE LOCTITE® = Low Strength
Ideal for small screws or plastic assemblies.
- Field-Applied: LOCTITE® 222
- Pre-Applied: DRI 203 ECO™
Are you working with delicate or small fasteners? Purple formulas provide grip without risking damage during disassembly.
Bonus: Sealants (non-color-based)
- DRI 503™, 516™, and 513HV™ = Vibration and leak protection
