Why PAAC’D® Outshines Traditional Nylok Patch Fasteners
Choosing between chemical threadlockers and mechanical locking systems? You’re not alone. Many manufacturers are comparing LOCTITE® PAAC’D® Fasteners to Nylok® patches.
What is the Nylok® Patch?
The Nylok® Patch is a pre-applied nylon coating that uses physical interference to lock threads. While effective in specific applications, it has limitations.
Is a nylon patch the same as a threadlocker? No. It provides resistance by friction, not chemical bonding, and can degrade or shear under heat or reused.
What Makes LOCTITE® Pre-Applied Adhesives Different?
LOCTITE® DRI products are chemical threadlockers or sealants that cure during assembly. Instead of relying on friction, they create a chemical bond.
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Feature | LOCTITE® PAAC’D® | Nylok® Patch |
|---|---|---|
| Locking Mechanism | Chemical bonding | Mechanical resistance (nylon) |
| Temperature Resistance | Up to 400°F | ~250°F |
| Reusability | Single-use (most types) | Limited reuse |
| Cleanliness | No particles, dry-to-touch | Nylon may shed debris |
| Application Consistency | Precision machine-applied | May vary with patch thickness |
Which Is Right for You?
If you require repeatability, torque performance, high-temp resistance, and reduced waste – LOCTITE® is your best bet.
When would you still choose Nylok®? For assemblies requiring a visible patch or when spec’d for legacy compliance. Our team can help evaluate the trade-offs.
