  1. “Do You Really Own This Place?” How Kim Casineau Quietly Built a Manufacturing Powerhouse-Speaks Up“

    By  Karen Rossetti

When Kim Casineau purchased The Coating House in East Longmeadow, she didn’t make a big announcement. In fact, she didn’t tell anyone. Not customers. Not suppliers. Not even her peers in the industry.

It wasn’t because she lacked pride in what she had accomplished, it was because she knew the manufacturing world she was entering. A male-dominated industry where being a woman at the helm often comes with skepticism, questions, and assumptions. She told The Republican, “I didn’t broadcast I was the new owner because you don’t want to do that in an industry like this.”

Instead, she simply took over “as the new person.” She didn’t want her customers to get the “jitters” or question her ability to lead. “They would have less confidence (than a man) in my ability to run it,” she said. “There’s definitely a bias out there.”

    That didn’t stop her.

In the years since taking over, Kim has quietly transformed The Coating House-tripling gross sales, expanding its customer base from 40 to over 220, increasing its product line and building a 14-person team evenly split between men and women. The company specializes in providing fasteners-threaded parts with or without pre-applied adhesive coatings for critical components in industries where safety and performance are everything.

But while her company’s growth has been impressive, it’s Kim’s evolving approach to visibility and leadership that truly stands out.

    She’s no longer staying quiet.

Kim now uses her platform to speak up – and to make space for others. “It is frustrating,” she said, “but whatever frustration I have only drives me to be more vocal and to bring awareness  to people around me and the community that it can be done.”

That belief shapes how she hires. At The Coating House, job postings emphasize entry-level accessibility. “You don’t need to have experience,” Kim says. “The ability, desire and aptitude to learn is all that’s required. We want to bring women into the manufacturing space.”

It’s a mission born not just from her own journey, but from a desire to rewrite what leadership in manufacturing can look like. Her success proves that women don’t need to mimic their male counterparts to thrive-they need support, opportunity, and the freedom to lead in their own way.

Kim Casineau may have started by keeping a low profile. But today, her impact is impossible to ignore.

Kim recently spoke with Staasi Heropoulos from The Republican.

  3. PAAC’D® > THE PATCH

Faster Assembly, Higher Quality with PAAC’D®PAAC'D

If you’ve visited our website, you’ve probably seen the PAAC’D® acronym on the horizontal menu bar, which stands for “Pre-Applied Adhesive Coated.”

Anyone who’s manually applied Loctite to fasteners knows it’s not an exact science. You’re never going to get precisely the same amount of coating on each fastener. And if you’re installing those fasteners horizontally, you expect some of it to drip off.

With PAAC’D®, these problems are eliminated. Fasteners are ready for assembly with the correct amount of coating already applied, and they’re color-coded for fast, easy identification. Assembly time is reduced, and the process isn’t messy or inconsistent. As a bonus, there are no empty Loctite bottles to recycle!

    How it Works

Fasteners pre-coated with Henkel Loctite Dri-Loc® are dry to the touch. The Dri-Loc contains microcapsules that crush during assembly to release an activator. This anaerobic chemical reaction forms a polymer dispersion that rapidly bonds the fastener to its mating part.

Fasteners pre-coated with Henkel Loctite Dri-Seal® are also dry to the touch and provide an instant seal. The coating seals the fastener by filling all available space to provide a permanent, high-pressure seal that’s impermeable by most common liquids and gases.

All Loctite® threadlockers have a broad temperature resistance of -65°F to 300°F, and some are designed to withstand temperatures as high as 400°F.

Fastener shelf life with most pre-applied Loctite Dri-Loc® and Dri-Seal® products is up to four years when properly stored per Henkel’s specifications.

    Industry Leading Quality

“Our proprietary PAAC’D® process helps manufacturers in many ways,” The Coating House General Manager Harley Kata says. “Quality control is at the top of the list, because we remove the potential for human error that can occur when assemblers apply the coating themselves.”

Some of the biggest names in aerospace rely on The Coating House for their coated fasteners. “We’re  AS9100 certified, and the only Henkel® Authorized Pre-Applied Service Center on the East Coast,” Kata noted. “Henkel and our customers place a great deal of trust in the quality of our work, and we’re extremely proud of that.”

Kim Casineau, Elected President to BOD of YWCA of Western MassachusettsKim Casineau’s journey is one of resilience, empowerment, and paying it forward. Today, she is the owner of The Coating House, an AS9100-ISO-certified manufacturer located in East Longmeadow, and a volunteer on the YWCA Board of Directors.

    Overcoming Challenges

Kim’s mother died just six months after a cancer diagnosis on the day before Kim was to enter seventh grade. As she describes, “She had been very, very sick.” Her father, thirty-nine at the time, was left with four children to raise and didn’t have the skills. This led to a challenging period in Kim’s life. Feeling she had no choice, Kim left home. “I had lost my mother, father, and entire family,” she recalls.

    Finding Support in the YWCA

During this difficult time, the YWCA provided her with much-needed support. This experience left a lasting impact on her. “Receiving services from the YWCA was a short moment in my life, but there has always been a connection,” Casineau shares. Inspired by the generosity shown to her, she has since made it her mission to reach out to other women and girls whom she feels she could positively impact.

    Giving Back

As soon as Kim was able, she began to contribute to the YWCA, increasing her contributions as her income increased. In 2019, she was asked to serve on the Board of Directors, and she currently serves as the board’s President. She is also part of an upcoming effort to implement a new educational program, The HERE Project, for high school students focused on promoting healthy and empowering relationships.

    Spreading Awareness

Kim hopes to use her experiences and her position as a business owner to raise awareness for the YWCA and its services, so more women can benefit. She also dispels the common misconception that poverty and domestic violence only affect a certain population, explaining, “That’s simply not true. It does not discriminate. The YWCA is a necessary resource that needs community support. It takes a village.”

    Supporting Other Non-Profit Organizations

Kim also supports other nonprofit organizations, including ‘I Found Light Against All Odds’, ‘Dress for Success’, which offers support and professional attire, ‘Open Pantry Community Services’, which provides food, housing, and social services, and ‘Soldier On’, which coordinates housing and supportive services for homeless veterans.

Mentorship and Diversity at The Coating House

At The Coating House, Casineau is committed to creating diversity among her employees. Her business offers a proprietary adhesive coating process that provides optimum locking and sealing capabilities for fasteners, fittings, and bolts. As a woman-led business owner, one of her goals is to create a mentorship program between her business and the women utilizing YWCA services.

“It doesn’t matter where you start. What matters is when you decide to take ownership of where you are going,” – Kim Casineau.
